New Delhi: The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) today released the SIAM Motor Vehicle Data May 2025, highlighting steady performance across India’s automotive segments, with notable growth in two-wheeler sales and a minor dip in passenger and three-wheeler categories.

According to the report, total vehicle production in May 2025, including Passenger Vehicles, Three-Wheelers, Two-Wheelers, and Quadricycles, stood at 25,82,207 units.

  • Passenger Vehicles: 3,44,656 units (down 0.8% YoY)
  • Three-Wheelers: 53,942 units (down 3.3% YoY)
  • Two-Wheelers: 16,55,927 units (up 2.2% YoY)
  • Quadricycles: 1 unit (down from 32 units in May 2024)

Segment-wise, scooters saw a 7.1% year-on-year increase, while motorcycle sales remained flat. Mopeds experienced a decline of 7.7%. Meanwhile, electric rickshaw and e-cart segments witnessed significant contractions of over 40%.

Rajesh Menon, Director General of SIAM, said, “All segments showed steady performance. Two-wheeler growth is particularly encouraging. As RBI has reduced repo rates by 100 basis points in under six months and with above-normal monsoons forecasted, we expect a positive boost in consumer demand and affordability in the near term.”

SIAM also clarified that SIAM Motor Vehicle Data May 2025 for manufacturers like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover, and Volvo were not available, and Tata Motors’ data was only included in the overall passenger vehicle figures.
